The Loa River is Chile’s Longest river & the main watercourse for the driest desert on the planet- The Atacama.

The river is meant to provide sustenance to many towns along its banks, one of them was the oasis of Quillagua. This soon to be ghost town is result of the over use of the river’s water for the purpose of mining. In a free market economy like Chile- the mining companies in the vicinity have sucked towns like Quillagua completely dry.
